Following the rebuilding, years of turbulence plagued the congregation. Considerable antagonism toward the German language and suspicions of the congregational members and even of the pastor being disloyal arose because the Gospel was preached in the German language during the years of World War I. Pastor Starck faithfully led the congregation through those troublesome years, and the congregation granted him a peaceful dismissal in early 1918.

In the fall of 1918, Rev. John Schliepsiek was installed.

Trinity Lutheran Schoolhouse

In June of 1919 the congregation resolved to alternate services in English and German. In the fall of 1919 school was once again opened. It had been closed by a congregational resolution shortly after opening in September, 1914. Teachers in the school were Rev. and Mrs. Schliepsiek and later there were student vicars. Excavation for a basement with the installation of a furnace and also a 12 x 12 addition to the school house were completed by the congregation during the ministry of Rev. Schliepsiek. Through God's grace and mercy and the untiring efforts of its Pastor, Trinity experienced a very rapid growth from 1918 to 1924 with 80 children and adults added to the congregation.
