Was one of your relatives M.F. Enenbach who owned the Variety Store at 310 Main Street in Manning? According to the 1981 Centennial website, M.F. Enenbach was the manager in 1916 and purchased the store from Chase (misspelled Chas.) & Howland. Do you know when M.F. Enenbach actually purchased the store? Do you have any photos of the early store? Outside photos & inside photos?

My dad was Orin Chase. He was in partnership with his cousin, William (Bill) Howland and they owned the store. They also had stores in Dunlap Iowa and Paullina Iowa.

I have a photo showing the inside of the Manning store at Christmas time. Undated but it is when my parents owned the place...probably like 1910 or so to 1916 or later.

I live in Berkeley CA and do not get back to the midwest very often so I cannot readily check out any details at the courthouse or the newspapers at the Manning library. Where do you live?

I am sending the photo to be included in the 2006 book (if there is one) and to go on the website that Dave Kusel operates. I will be happy to also send you a copy if you want it. (I have to find it first!!!!!!)

chat later,

Rex Chase
