I am also a descendant of this couple, but have slightly different information. Our branch also spells it "Claussen" rather than "Clausen." I have quite different marriage information for them. According to Wiebke's obituary, they were married in 1845 in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. I think this is probably correct for several reasons--at least two of their children were born before 1854; secondly, according to the obituary of their daughter, Emma, they didn't come to this country until 1882.
