I am researching my great great grandfather, John Lagora Barry. His obituary stated he lived most of his life in Oxford, Iowa (near Iowa City) except for the few years he lived near Manning, Iowa. He was born in Oxford, Johnson County, Iowa in 1859. He married in Johnson County, Iowa in 1893 and his residence on the Iowa State census in 1895 was listed as Oxford, Iowa. The 1880 federal census showed him residing in Oxford. I would guess he lived near Manning sometime between 1880 and 1893. He was Irish Catholic and well known as an accomplished fiddler and square dance caller. Do you have any recommendations on how to go about researching him in the Manning area? He was raised on a farm so would probably worked as a farm hand or laborer.
Thanks for any help you could provide,
Patsy Barry
