Don't be left out
I remember hearing quite often after the 1981 Manning Centennial book was published from people who said they wished they would have submitted information to that book. Then after the 2006 Quasquicentennial history book was published I heard similar comments -- I wish I would have submitted a history or I didn't know about the history book project.
Manning School History
Well here is another chance for you to document your part in the Manning community by submitting information and pictures for the upcoming school history book. Please don't be the person who "wished they would have submitted their school information."
Maybe you don't have something about yourself personally but a parent, grandparent, cousin, uncle, or friend. We are interested in all aspects of Manning School history so please drop off your information at the Monitor office where there is a box on the south wall shelf with the name "Dave Kusel" on it or you can contact myself or other committee members whose names have been listed in Monitor articles.
Homecoming
Pictures continue to trickle in for Homecoming and we
still need a lot more of the Queen/King pictures and any parade or other Homecoming
activities you have captured with a camera. Carol Ann (Gruhn) Joens of Manilla submitted
this October 9, 1953, Homecoming Queen and Court photo by Lyden Studio.

CoppernollClass photos
For a number of years graduating classes had their

provided this picture. He and his wife Ila (Claussen) were members of this MHS class of
1926.

If you have one of these type of photos please place it in an envelope with your name, address, and phone number and drop it off at the Monitor office.
Sports
Ila Rix was not only student and teacher at Manning
she was also an athlete. Below is the MHS girls' basketball team of 1926. One of the
players, Alexine Zender was a first cousin to my dad, Amos Kusel. Her mother was Ida
(Kusel) Zender and one of Ida's brothers was August Kusel who was my grandfather.
Arlene & Lucille Sinn were the daughters of Jens J. Sinn who established his dentistry
business in Manning in 1902 and continued it for 54 years. Marcella Martens married Ed
Knaack and they worked at the Martens Variety Store for many years. Iris Claussen was
the daughter of August & Catherine (Schlueter) Claussen. Ila was the daughter of
Claus & Clara (Ewoldt) Claussen and married Art Rix.

Band
Another photo I got from the Rix family was Karen
Rix's Junior High band photo. I do not have the identifications yet but plan on visiting with
Karen later on.
A word about your pictures
In order to get the best quality in the book we need original pictures. If you are familiar with your computer scanner settings -- these are the publisher requirements -- Grayscale (if black and white) otherwise in highest true color tif format at 300dpi with the scan of 10 to 12 inches. Please note if the faces have become washed out or too light, you should attempt to adjust the shadows, midtones, and highlights. Probably the best way would be to allow me to scan your original photos so I can adjust the pre-scan settings to make the best possible digital image. Fax type prints and newspaper clippings will not work. Copies usually become less sharp and increase the washed out look when scanned which is why we prefer the original photos. If you drop off your photos at the Monitor office please place them in an envelope with your name and phone number printed on the outside of the envelope (please do NOT write on the back of your photos which can permanently damage them). Your photos will be quickly scanned and safely returned. You will be notified if more time is needed to complete the scans when large numbers of pictures or a whole album is submitted.
