A note from Dave Kusel - webmaster of these web pages and chairman of the
school history book committee ---
Manning has a wonderful history of being a very progressive community. While most small rural towns are fading away Manning continues the visionary path our pioneer ancestors gave us.
Preserving our traditions & history are also very important. We have the longest
running annual celebration in Iowa - Kinderfest (children's day) 1881 - 2006. Only during WWI &
WWII was the celebration suspended.
Our community has published 3 major history books.
History of Manning 1898
1981 Manning Centennial book
2006 Manning Quasquicentennial book
Now we have taken on the challenge of publishing a history book of the Manning town & country school system.
Time-line
Plans are to publish a 500 page hard-bound book some time in late 2009 or early 2010 for sale and distribution at the 2010 summer All-school reunion. This book will follow a similar style and quality of the 1981 and 2006 Manning history books.
We need your help!!!
Without help from alumni members, school employees, and any one who had a relative that went to school here our task will be much more difficult.
Help - ESPECIALLY from those of you who no longer live in the Manning area.
Maybe your parent, grandparent or great-grandparent attended the Manning school system --- you may not have ever lived here or even visited Manning but you may have old pictures and information about our school and town.
We would especially like to hear from you.
Over the last 10 years of maintaining a Manning, Iowa, web page I have found that people in the past who lived here in Manning and moved away usually took along memorabilia.
Now decades later their descendants have inherited this Manning history. If they do a
search for Manning, Iowa, they usually run across one of my web pages and then contact
me. It is at this time I find out they have really old and unique pictures and information
about Manning history.
Write a history about your relative.
Maybe you are related to a Manning school employee who has passed away. Would you take some
time to research that person's school history, find some pictures and then send in the information?
So please take some time to contact me about Manning history you have.

Please make this school history book the best Manning book yet.
