Ewoldt #6
(3 miles east of Manning on 141)
This was the newer country school which is presently being used as a garage on the Struve farm.

Below is a small list of some of the students who attended this country school.
Robert Richards & Melvin Meier (1942)
Glen Struve, Fern (Struve) Jensen, Curt Struve

Below is what is left of the original "George Struve" school house which was replaced by the school house shown above.
Herman Grau bought the original school house and converted it into a garage.
Melvin Kusel helped Herman move the school house from the George Struve corner to its present location 1 mile east and 1 mile north of Manning. (West across the road from the Virgil Genzen, now the Larry Genzen farmstead).

Memories from Glenda Struve Baker
May 18, 2003

Visited your website again for a short while this afternoon and clicked onto the Manning Country Schools section and noticed that you have listed a few of the students who attended Ewoldt #6 George Struve School.
I can probably give you all the names of the students who attended while I did, from Kindergarten through 7th grade (I moved for 8th)!

But I am sure you would be more interested in those who are still living in the Manning community.....
I know that Merlyn Irlbeck attended---think he was in the 7th or 8th grade when I started along with all of his brothers and sisters, Ronnie, Floyd, Patricia, Elaine and Joyce. Elaine might still be in the area along with Merlyn as I think the rest live elsewhere...The Irlbeck kids were my babysitters (and next door neighbors) before I ever started school.

There were the Hansen kids....Melvin, Ronnie, Janelle, and Carol.
Sonksen----Vernon and Joyce Ann.
Richards---Bill and Joyce
Knueven---Pat and Patricia
Sextro---Bernice and Loren
Welsh---Jerry
Struve---Glenda, Galen, Janene, Linda, Rhonda and Curt.
Renze and Fritz----Ellen Renze and Rosemary, James and Phyllis Fritz (stepfamily)

Mrs. Antone was my Kindergarten teacher, 1st and 2nd don't recall their names, and then Miss Lillian Spear from 3rd through 7th.
Her niece Loyce Gray worked many years at the Chevrolet dealership in Manning.
These are the majority of them that I recall and I know somewhere there is a group school picture.
