Linus Clayton "Chub" son of Joseph and Martha (Roth) Heithoff, was born July 16, 1917, on a farm east of Templeton, Iowa. He attended Sacred Heart School through the seventh grade and completed eighth grade in country school. He then began working with his dad on the family farm.
On October 8, 1940, Chub was united in marriage with Marguerite "Marge" Kisgen at Sacred Heart Church in Templeton. Two daughters were born to this union. The couple soon began farming. In 1948 Chub quit farming and along with his brother-in-law John Kisgen purchased Herb Kuhl's tavern in Manning. The family then moved to Manning. In 1962 the business name was changed from Johnny and Chub's to Chub's Place. About that time Marge began helping in the tavern. In 1981 they retired and moved from their apartment above the tavern to their home on Center Street in Manning.
Chub was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Manning and Knights of Columbus in Templeton. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening and yard work. Chub had been a loyal Chicago Cubs fan since 1931.
Chub's health began to fail and he entered the Manning Regional Healthcare Center where he died on Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at the age of 90 years, 11 months and 16 days.
Chub was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: one, in infancy; Marvin Heithoff and wife Esther; and Virgil Heithoff; two sisters: Bonita and husband John Sporrer and Irene and husband Mike Richter; and brother-in-law Sam Schrad.
Chub is survived by his wife Marge Heithoff of Manning; two daughters: Linda and husband Marion Romitti of Madrid and Joan Justice of Minden; six grandsons; 18 great-grandchildren; brother Eugene Heithoff and wife Margaret of Templeton; four sisters: Rita and husband Joe Simons of Carroll; Edna Schrad of Templeton; Ruth and husband LeRoy Brown of Des Moines and Bernice and husband Edwin Halbur of Coon Rapids; sister-in-law Mildred Heithoff of Templeton; and many nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
