Besides losing a good friend, who I enjoyed visiting with over the phone and in person for hours at a time over the decades, I lost one of the few people left who has been willing to help me with Manning area history, and someone who was old enough to know a lot about our history.
Since Ardith Lage grew up in Lincoln Township in Audubon County and later, as an adult, raised her family in Crawford County, with Manning in between, she got to know many families in this area.

Ardith also had a passion for gathering and preserving her own family history and pictures and was very gracious in allowing me to scan most of her pictures and information. Like so many Pioneer families of the past, the David family was very large and today has all but disappeared with very few people that carry the David name and only a few who are descendants of the family in this area.

But thanks to Ardith's sharing with me, I now will be able to preserve the legacy of this large Pioneer family and all they did to help build the community by preserving their pictures and history in the Manning Historical Database that expands on a daily basis.

I won't take the time to connect every David family member featured here, but they are all related to Ardith in one way or another.
While Ardith and I are not related by blood we have a lot of "common relatives" through the Schade, Borkowski, Rudnick, Polzien, and Friedrichsen families that connect to both my mom's and dad's side of our Kusel/Ehrichs family.

Again, I hope that by featuring this family that more people of other Manning area families will come forward and let me scan their pictures and history and continue to expand this very unique and one-of-a-kind Manning Historical Database.

I also hope that the relatives of Ardith will come forward with pictures they have that connect to the Manning area.

When I worked on the Manning Schools history book in 2007, Ardith was a very big help with both the town and rural school history. We had a lot of fun working on this full-page ad that was placed in the school book. It really encompasses the history of the Lage & David family.
