August 11, 1938 COUNCIL ASKS SCHOOL BOARD TO HOLD ELECTION TO DETERMINE POOL SITE
At the regular meeting of the City Council last Thursday evening, matters pertaining to the proposed Athletic Field were discussed. Application has been made for a new grant for reasons that in the last election, the athletic field was not included in the bond proposition which of course affected the validity of the WPA grant. It was thought by most people that in the election the bond issue which was voted for included the athletic field, but it has been found such was not the case - the bond proposition called only for a swimming pool. The bonds voted for cannot be used for an athletic field.
In regard to the swimming pool the council has requested that the school board call an election to decide whether or not the electors would approve of using the area south of the high school as a swimming pool site. Due to the fact that various engineers as well as the State Planning Board have been consulted regarding the location of the swimming pool, it was their unanimous opinion that this site was the logical location for the pool. However, the council has definitely decided that it shall be up to the electors to decide on this proposition.
Mr. Rodin of Denison, WPA officer of this district is making an effort to have the original WPA Grant OK'd as to location.
