Dennis and Rosemary Drees
Rosemary and Dennis were married on February 19, 1955, at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church in Dunlap, Iowa. Dennis Earl, born on April 19, 1931, is the son of Edward and Viola (Eischeid) Drees. Rosemary, born on November 22, 1930, is the daughter of Lawrence and Helen (Noonen) Higgins. Dennis grew up on a farm in the Manning area and Rosemary grew up on farms in Marshall County. Rosemary and Dennis are the parents of six children: Gary Allen, Anna Marie, Mark Joseph, Mary Helen, Madonna Rose, and Matthew Edward.
Dennis was in the military service and served in the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. Following the service, he returned to Manning, working as a farmhand and then on a farm with a Grade A milking operation. While farming, he also worked as a welder. Rosemary attended nursing school, graduating from St. Thomas Mercy Hospital in Marshalltown, Iowa. Rosemary worked at Manning General Hospital, raised children, and then worked at General Electric in Carroll, Iowa. Throughout the years, she has gone back to Manning General Hospital, working in the SAT Unit, Home Health, and Garst Seed Company.
Gary graduated from Manning High School in 1976. He then attended Western Iowa Tech in Sioux City and graduated with a degree in Farm Equipment Tech in 1977. In November of 1981, Gary married Julie Jensen from Manilla, Iowa. Gary has worked for Heisterkamp Implement, Mike's Repair, and is now self-employed. Julie has taught for twenty-four years, thirteen years at Maple Valley Community schools and eleven years at Le Mars Community School. Gary and Julie reside in Sloan, Iowa.
Anna graduated from Manning High School in 1978. She then attended Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids and graduated with a Nursing/Biology degree in 1984. In August of 1982, Anna married Paul Weber. Anna has worked at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames, Iowa, since 1985. In addition, she has been employed in home health care and currently works in the Ames Public School District. Anna is currently pursuing her Master of Arts in Occupational Therapy at the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minnesota. Paul has worked at Dutch States Mines (previously Roche Vitamins and Minerals) since 1985. Anna and Paul have five children: Daniel Dennis, born May 24, 1983; Christopher James, Adam Allen, Sara Elizabeth, and Lauren Elizabeth.
Mark graduated from Manning High School in 1980. He then moved to Oklahoma and began working for Conoco-Phillips in 1982. In January of 1983, Mark married Karen Chandler. She is currently employed with Medford Public School. Mark and Karen are also engaged in farming outside of Medford, Oklahoma. Mark and Karen have two children: Mark Joseph, and Jennifer Marie.
Mary graduated from Manning High School in 1982. She then attended Kirkwood Community College and graduated with an Associate degree in Occupational Therapy in 1984. In 1992 she graduated from Texas Women's University with a Bachelor in Occupational Therapy. In December of 1993, Mary married Eric Echterling. Mary is currently self-employed and Eric works for Des Moines Area Community College. Eric and Mary live by Dallas Center, Iowa.
Madonna graduated from Manning High School in 1986. She then attended Bernell College of Cosmetology working in the field for three years. Madonna then went back to college attending The College of St. Catherine graduating with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Occupational Therapy in 1996. She currently lives in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and works as an Occupational Therapy Manager at St. Anthony's Rehab Hospital.
Matthew graduated from Manning High school in 1990. He attended Iowa Western Community College in Clarinda and graduated with an Associate of Arts degree in 1992. Matt received his Bachelor of Arts in Education from Concordia University in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1995. Matt married Jennifer Riggert in June of 1995. The two taught in Peoria, Illinois, for three years and then moved back to northwest Iowa. Matt has taught at Anthon-Oto Community School since 1999; Jennifer taught five years at Hinton Community School (1999-2004), and now teaches in the Sergeant Bluff-Luton Community School District. The two reside in Sloan, Iowa, and have two children: Carah Rose, and Caleb Matthew.
