Albert, John & William Karsten were brothers who served in WWI.
They were the sons of Jacob "Peter" Karstens & Anna Opperman. Albert married Hilda Schroeder.
John never married.

THE MANNING, IOWA, MONITOR Thursday, October 30, 1958.

Funeral services for Albert E. Karsten, 61, were held at the Ohde Funeral Home at 2:00 pm Thursday with the Rev Lester Moore of the Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in the Manning cemetery, with military rites by the ceremonial teams of the American Legion and VFW Posts. Nephews acted as pallbearers, namely Elmer Petersen, Berdell Schroeder, Elden Schroeder, Burdette Schroeder, Wayne Schroeder and Duane Wegner.

Mr. Karsten, son of Peter and Anna (Opperman) Karsten, was born March 11, 1897, in Carroll County, and received his education in the Manning schools. On October 18, 1928, he married Hilda Schroeder. The couple farmed until 1945, when they moved to Manning. He was employed at the McMahon Feed and Seed store until this summer when illness forced him to stop work.

He died on Tuesday morning, October 21 at the Des Moines Veterans hospital.

Mr. Karsten was a member of the Methodist Church and the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Wilbur Karsten and Gerald Schroeder of Manning; three brothers, William and Walter of Salem, Oregon; John of Manning; two sisters, Mrs. Oscar (Minnie) Gustafson, Salem, Oregon; Mrs. Perry (Katie) Walcher, Eugene, Oregon, and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents' two brothers, Hugo and Louie.
