Alvin Jensen is the son of Dessa (Kusel) Jensen.
Ida Kusel & Dessa Kusel were the daughters of August Kusel.

In 1943, Alvin was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Artillery with the 35th Infantry Division in Europe. He took his basic training at Camp Haan, California, and was honorably discharged at the Fort Knox separation center November 22, 1945.

Pfc. Alvin Jensen, now stationed at Camp Haan, California writes as follows. "Just a word thanking you, for sending the home paper. I get it about every Tuesday.
It really makes a guy feel good to hear what's going on around your home town and I hope it keeps coming.

In Germany
Germany, Feb. 23, 1945. Dear Sirs:
Just a few lines to thank you and the Legion for sending the Monitor to me. I get it when it's about a month old, but it still is l interesting to read.
I'm in Germany now, but I hope this war is over soon so I can get out of this country and get back to Manning, Iowa.

Alvin M. Jensen

Alvin Mathias, son of Mathias and Dessa Dell Kusel Jensen, was born March 23, 1924, on the family farm near Audubon, Iowa. He attended country school near Audubon. After his schooling, Alvin worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps, helping build Springbrook State Park. He then worked as a service attendant at Gables Gas Station in Manning.

In 1943, Alvin was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Artillery with the 35th Infantry Division in Europe. After receiving his honorable discharge in 1945, he began trucking for Ramsey Transfer. He then drove truck for Best Trucking in Avoca.

On April 28, 1969, Alvin was united in marriage with Velna Carter. They made their home in Manning. In 1989, Alvin retired from trucking. Velna died July 20, 1990.

On September 12, 1992, Alvin was united in marriage with Arlene Ruhde Spack at Zion Lutheran Church. They resided in Manning. Alvin was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

On January 28, 1997, Alvin entered the Friendship Home in Audubon, and on Tuesday, August 10, 1999, he died at Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon. He reached the age of 75 years, 4 months and 17 days.

Besides his parents, Alvin is preceded in death by his first wife, a brother Ward Jensen, a brother-in-law Harold Ruhde, and a stepgrandchild Eric Spack.

He is survived by his wife Arlene Jensen of Manning; three stepchildren: Michael Spack of Mesa, Arizona; Mark Spack and his wife Patti of Omaha, Nebraska; Linda and her husband Michael Albatropp of Iowa Falls; three stepgrandchildren: Stacy Albatropp of Des Moines; Patrick Albatropp of Ames; Emily Spack of Omaha, Nebraska; three sisters: Fern and her husband Orren Ramsey, Pearl and her husband LeRoy (Tater) Dammann, and June Ruhde, all of Manning; three sisters-in-law: Dorothy Wiese of Manning; Virgene Hausman of Halbur; Marjorie Loftus of Cincinnati, Ohio; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.


Alvin Jensen is buried in the Manning Cemetery.
