Betty Grelck Enlists In Waves
Miss Betty Grelck, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Grelck, has enlisted in the WAVES. She has passed her physical and been sworn in to the service. She is at present awaiting her call.

Miss Grelck, who is twenty years old, graduated from Manning High School in 1941 and is the first Carroll County girl to enlist in the organization.

Great Lakes, Ill. - Betty Jane Grelck of Manning, a member of the WAVES reported at the U. S. Naval hospital here recently after completing a four--week curse of indoctrination at Hunter College, Bronx, N.Y.
Miss Grelck is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Grelck of Manning. She and the other WAVES are students in the Naval Hospital's Nursing school.

Included in the course is training in bed-making, bed baths, reading of temperature, pulse and respiration, routine administration of hypodermics, war management, administration of medicine, lectures on eye, ear, nose, throat, dietetics, pre- and post-operations care, care of orthopedic patients and general care and comfort of patients.
Upon completion of their studies they will be assigned to various Naval hospital wards to carry on duties similar to those of Navy hospital corpsmen.
Miss Grelck was graduated from Manning High School in 1941.
She is a member of the Junior Auxiliary of the American Legion.

Betty Grelck to Stay In Waves Until Fall
Betty Jane Grelck, Wave, has returned to her station in the medical supply depot at Brooklyn, N. Y., after concluding a 10-day leave in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Grelck.
She has been advanced to pharmacists mate first class and is now in charge of all enlisted personnel at the supply depot.
She has completed three years in service and has elected to remain until September.

Betty Jane Grimm, 64, died Monday, Nov. 3, at Veterans Administration Hospital, in Omaha, Neb. Her body was donated to the University of Nebraska for medical science.
A memorial service was conducted today at 2:30 at the First Presbyterian Church in Manning with the Rev. Randy Ross officiating. Connie Siepker was the organist and Judy Joens was the vocalist and sang "Sweet Hour of Prayer" and "Blessed Assurance". Military honors were conducted by Emil Ewoldt Post No.22, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3517, both of Manning. Honorary casket bearers were Duane Otto, Dave Souter, Bob Wiskus, Merlin Hays, Bob Barsby, and Wayne Schroeder. Funeral arrangements were made by the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning.
Mrs.Grimm is survived, by two daughters, Mrs. Tom (Sharon) MacDonald-Williams of Manning; Susan Grimm of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a son, Jon Grimm of Manning; her father, Henry Grelck of Manning; her brothers-in-law and their spouses, Ernest Grimm and his wife, Elberta, of Manning. Herb Schroeder of Manning, Edwin Grimm and his wife, Helen, of Manning, Delores Balukoff of Manning, Paul Grimm and his wife, Virginia of N.C., and Florence Grimm of Manning, and an aunt Enid Barsby of Manning.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Blanche, and her husband Clousie.
Mrs. Grimm was born in Manning on Sept. 26, 1922. She graduated from Manning High School in 1941. She married Clousie Grimm on June 29, 1947. She worked in the parts department and as a bookkeeper for various implement dealers in Manning including the Knudson's and Bunz Implement, which later became Manning Implement. She also worked at the Manning Monitor. In 1972, she managed Grimm's Place in Manning. She was active in the Republican Party.


Betty Grimm is buried in the Manning Cemetery.
