June 4, 1914 Monitor (class of 1914 graduates) Jesse LeRoy "Roy" Barnes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Barnes, was born at Manning, June 30, 1895. In 1901 he entered the Manning Schools and has with industry and zeal followed the course to the end. During part of his school life he has driven to school from his home south of Manning. During his school life he has kept his eye on the farm and his favorite studies have been Agriculture, Mathematics and sometime in the future it is his wish to enter Ames College and further fit himself for the occupation of being a scientific agriculturist.

Funeral services for Jesse LeRoy Barnes were held at the Methodist Church in Bayard Monday, October 13, with the Rev. Willard O. Peterson officiating. Military honors and burial were accorded by the American Legion Post of Bayard.

Mr. Barnes was born at Manning, June 30, 1895, the oldest son of Lloyd and Viola (Sievers) Barnes.

He died at the Veterans Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on October 9, 1958, at the age of 63 years.

He served in the Rainbow Division of the army in World War I, and was past commander of Emil Ewoldt Post No. 22, American Legion at Manning.

On May 27, 1920, he was married to Ollie Esycheck at Council Bluffs.

He is survived by his mother, one brother, Lloyd, in California; a sister, Mrs. Esther Sievers; and an aunt, Rilla Mayberry, all of Coon Rapids, Iowa.
