Addison W. Blakeslee
Addison Wills Blakeslee was born August 11, 1847, at Main Village, Broome County, New York, the son of Rev. James and Rachel Blakeslee, Pastor of the Presbyterian Church, and died at his home in Mystic, Iowa, September 17, 1922, at the age of 75 years, 1 month, and 6 days.

When a boy his parents moved to Ohio and when employed as a telegraph operator in Dayton of the same state, and about 17 years of age, enlisted October 1, 1864, in Company C, 12th Ohio Cavalry, participating in several skirmishes with the dangerous duties assigned to a scout. He was honorably discharged in June 1865, at the conclusion of the war.

In 1872, he was united in marriage to Margaret A. Dawson, at Andrew Jackson County, Iowa. After a short residence at Mercer, Pennsylvania, they returned to Iowa in which state they have since lived. Six children were born to this union: Clara (Mrs. John A.) Lewis, Manning, Iowa; Walter W., Mystic; Margaret, who died in infancy; Agnes (Mrs. J.R.) Dyson, Salem, South Dakota; William R., Mystic, and Herbert D., of Clarinda, Iowa. Besides his widow and children he leaves a brother, Charles H. of Kansas City, Kansas, and a number of grandchildren, all of whom morn their loss.

When a boy, he united with the Presbyterian Church, and in later years affiliating himself with the Methodist Episcopal Church. He was a faithful attendant at divine services, when physical condition permitted.

He studied for the medical profession following his discharge from Army service, later specializing in dentistry, which profession he followed as long as he was able.

Addison had a dentistry business in Manning which was destroyed by a fire along with much of the First National business district on September 12, 1895, with $200 loss for Blakeslee.

Short services were held Tuesday afternoon, September 19, at the home with Rev. E.J. Fairweather (last name not legible in newspaper) officiating.

Interment was made Wednesday in the family lot at Manning, Iowa.
