August Bogatzke is the son of Karl & Alwine (Krueger) Bogatzke.
Alwine died during childbirth with August's younger sister Hanna. Karl then married Mathilda Meyer and they had 14 children.

August Bogatzke was inducted into the Army on July 23, 1918, in Audubon, Iowa.
He served with Company H 7th Infantry in France & Germany and was part of the Army of Occupation at Meuse-Argonne.
He received an honorable discharge on August 28, 1919 at Camp Dodge, Iowa.


AUGUST L. BOGATZKE
August Ludwig Bogatzke, 80, died Friday morning, August 13, 1971, at Manning General Hospital, where he had been taken on Wednesday. For the past three years he had lived at the Manning Plaza nursing home.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Ohde Funeral Home here, with the Rev. Albert R. Altmann, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the ceremonial squads of the Manning American Legion and V.F.W. Posts at the Manning Cemetery. Mr. Bogatzke was born October 12, 1890, in Lincoln Township, Audubon County, a son of Carl and Alwine (Krueger) Bogatzke. He attended rural school near his home.

He served overseas in World War I and upon returning to the United States lived at Arlington, Minnesota.

In 1957, he came to Manning to be with his brother, Karl, and had lived here since then.

He is survived by four half-brothers: Fred Bogatzke of Grand Rapids, Minnesota; Karl Bogatzke, Manning, Iowa; Albert Bogatzke, Eden Valley, Minnesota; and Ernest Bogatzke, West Allis, Wisconsin; and three half-sisters: Mrs. Eva Wacker, St. Paul, Minnesota; Mrs. Ida Keay, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and Mrs. Matilda Jasken, St. Paul Park, Minnesota.

Preceding him in death were a sister, Mrs. Hannah Stamp; two half-sisters, Bertha and Marie; and two half-brothers, Paul and William Bogatzke.


August Bogatzke is buried in the Manning Cemetery.
