Fred Brandenburg


Fred P. Brandenburg was born September 27, 1888, in Clinton County, Iowa, and died January 6, 1928, in Carroll. He lived in Clinton County until 1916.

He entered the army July 5, 1917, and received his honorable discharge in 1918. He enlisted again in six months and served for 1 year.

He was married June 24, 1925, to Miss Minnie Hageman of Gray, Iowa. They lived in Manning and Westside, having moved to Carroll one week before his death.

He leaves to mourn him, his wife, his mother, Mrs. Doris Brandenburg, Aspinwall; his sister, Mrs. Melinda Friedrichsen, Manning; Mrs. Andersen, Clinton; four brothers, Arthur, Westside; John, Archer, Nebraska; Eddie, Portland, Oregon; and Ernest, of Gray. One sister, Mrs. Emma Andersen, preceded him in death 11 months ago.

Funeral services were held last Wednesday at the Presbyterian Church. Interment in Manning City Cemetery.

John Brandenburg of Archer, Nebraska, and Eddie Brandenburg of Portland, Oregon, came last week to attend the funeral of their brother, Fred Brandenburg.


Fred P. Brandenburg Was Laid to Rest Here Wednesday
Fred P. Brandenburg was born in Clinton, Iowa, September 27, 1888, and died at Carroll, January 6, 1928, at the age of 39 years, 3 months, and 9 days, after a very short illness; the immediate cause being an accumulation of blood in his head or a blood clot gathering on his brain which specialists were unable to correct before the end came.

The deceased resided in Clinton until 1916, coming to Crawford County. In 1917, on the 25th of July, he enlisted in the Army, offering his blood and life for his country. He experienced active service in France but came through it all unharmed and was honorably discharged in the fall of 1918, after the Armistice was signed. Six months later he enlisted again and served a year. After the second discharge in 1920 he came back to his former home and followed his vocation of farming and in 1925, on the 24th of June, he was united in marriage to Miss Minnie Hagemann of Gray, and lived in Manning, Westside, and Carroll. To Carroll they moved about a week prior to his death.

Those who are left to mourn his death besides his bereaved wife are, his mother, Mrs. Doris Brandenburg of Aspinwall; two sisters, Mrs. Marcus Andresen of Lyons, Iowa, and Mrs. Fred Friedrichsen of Manning; four brothers, Arthur of Westside, John of Archer, Nebraska; Eddy of Portland, Oregon, and Ernest of Gray; also his wife's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charley Hagemann of Gray. His older sister, Mrs. Emma Andresen preceded him in death about eleven months ago.

The funeral services were held from the Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, January 11, at 2:00 p.m., the Reverend Howland officiating. He was buried with military honors. His war comrades, members of the American Legion, Emil Ewoldt Post No. 22, acting as pallbearers, and a salute was fired over his grave. Interment was made at the Manning Cemetery. His many friends extend their deepest sympathy to the bereaved wife and other near relatives.
