Charles Scott, 85, of Harlan, formerly of Manning, died at Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan Sunday, June 29, 1975.

Graveside rites were held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Manning Cemetery, under direction of the Ohde Funeral Home. The Rev. Donald Jones, minister of the United Methodist Church. officiated. Pallbearers were members of American Legion Post No. 22 and V.F.W. Post No. 3517 of Manning.

A son of William and Mary (Stein) Scott, Mr. Scott was born near Arcadia November 15, 1889. As an infant he moved with his family to Oklahoma, and as a young man he returned to Iowa and farmed near Manning.

He served in World War I and then worked for Combustion Engineering Company in Chicago until retiring and moving to Manning.

While in Manning he was town marshal. For the last five years he resided in the Baptist Memorial Home at Harlan.

Surviving is a brother, Lee Scott of Dumas, Texas; and nieces and nephews including John L. Jahnke of Phoenix, Arizona, and Goldie (Mrs. Gerald) Hockett of Manning.

Mr. Scott was preceded in death by his wives and seven brothers and sisters including Henry, Theodore, George, Alonzo, Ada, Anna, and William.
