WILLIAM CHARLES CHRASTIL

Funeral rites for William Charles Chrastil, 70, of Irwin, were held on Saturday morning, January 11, at 10:00 at Sacred Heart Church in Manilla, with Rev. G.A. O'Rourke officiating. William died January 8, 1969.

Military funeral rites, with the Irwin and Manilla American Legion Posts in charge, were held at Nishnabotna Cemetery near Manilla. Casketbearers were Richard Larson, John Von Tersch, Carl Andersen, Wayne Fenster, all of Irwin; Orlando Hansen, Manilla, and Leroy Jansen, Manning.

The Rosary was prayed at 8:00 on Friday evening, January 10, at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manilla.

Mr. Chrastil, an overseas Veteran of World War I, was born October 24, 1898, in New York City. He was married on June 27, 1920, in Veronica Dorothy Freese. The couple lived in New York City, where he became a member of the police department on June 17, 1926. Following his retirement in 1946, they moved to Manilla, and in 1952 to Irwin.

Mrs. Chrastil died on June 21, 1964. A daughter, Mrs. Vernon (Eleanor) Lueth, died December 15, 1958.

He is survived by three grandchildren: William Lueth, Grand Rapids, Michigan; Richard Lueth, Omaha; and Maurine Lueth, a senior at Irwin Community School; and a great-grandchild. He was preceded by his wife, daughter and parents.

Mr. Chrastil died on January 11, 1969, at the Veterans Hospital in Omaha, following a short illness. He was a member of the Irwin American Legion Post, and a former member of the Manilla post, and a life member of the VFW Post in Manning.
