Mr. Coe Dead.
Mr. George W. Coe passed away at his late home in this city Wednesday evening, January 29, 1902, aged 65 years and 11 months. Mr. Coe had been a continued sufferer from asthma for some ten years past and it was this with other complications that caused his death. Incidentally, he died on the birthday of one of his sons.

Mr. Coe came here from Jackson County, this state, twenty-two years ago. At that time there were only six families in this, Warren Township. For two years prior to the establishment of this city Mr. Coe and two sons tilled the ground upon which the town now stands. Later on they established a creamery, operating the same for a couple of years then selling out. For the last ten or twelve years Mr. Coe has led a retired life.

G.W. Coe was born in the old town of Dundass, Canada, in the year 1836. While in his latter teens he came with his parents to Jackson County, Iowa. In 1861 he enlisted in Company A of the 24th Iowa serving his country for two years, being discharged in 1863. On his return home be was united in marriage with Mary Jane Gray, the daughter of a wealthy mill owner of Clinton County. Two sons were born to them, Charles C. and William G., who with wife and mother survive him. Mr. Coe was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church for many years. Mr. Coe was a good, kind-hearted man, a loving husband, and father.

The funeral took place from the family residence at 2 o'clock this afternoon, Rev. A.G. Bennett officiating, after which the remains were interred in the Manning Cemetery south of town. Their many friends extend the deepest sympathy to the bereaved family in this, their sad hour of affliction.

Will G. Coe, the youngest son, of Oskaloosa, and James A. Gray, of Des Moines, brother of Mrs. Coe, arrived yesterday noon to be present at the funeral.

George Coe is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
