Edward was born in Manning, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War I along
with his brother Julius Grau.
He married Alma Wiese on February 9, 1921 in Carroll, Iowa. They had five children Arthur, Juanita, Edward, Ruth and Bonnie Edward and Alma. They lived at Walcott, Iowa, for 35 years and later near Davenport, Iowa. Edward passed away June 13, 1960, at the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City, four hours after his brother Henry had passed away on that same day in Waupun, Wisconsin. Born in Manning, Iowa, December 15, 1897, to Claus Heinrich and Mathilda (Mohr) Grau.
Mr. Grau was a Veteran of World War I, serving with the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Harry (Juanita) Upsen, Davenport, Mrs. Lloyd (Ruth Ann) Siebel, Bennett, and Mrs. Leonard (Bonnie) Freeze, East Moline; two sons, Arthur Edward Grau, Davenport, and Edward Earl Grau, Stockton; 16 grandchildren; two sisters, Amanda (Mrs. Peter) Moeller and Emma (Mrs. Charles) Pfoltner, both of Manning; and three brothers, Albert and Hugo Grau, Manilla, Iowa; and Henry Grau, Waupun, Wisconsin.
Edward was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Emelia Magdalena (Wiese) Grau; brothers, William, Detlef, Julius, Marvin, Edward, and Elmer; and sisters, Carolena Hell, Annie Grau in infancy, and Mathilda at 6 months.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Runge Chapel, Davenport, Iowa. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park, Davenport, Iowa.
