EMIL J. JANSEN
Emil Johannes Jansen, 73, of Manning, a retired mechanic and service station operator, died Monday morning, May 11, 1970, at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, where he had been a patient for a week.

Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, with Pastor Edward F. Heinicke, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial, with military honors will be in the Manning Cemetery.

Mr. Jansen was born at Holstein July 3, 1896, a son of Johannes and Anna (Luetje) Jansen. As a child he moved to a farm near Manning and attended rural school. As a youth he began work for F.D. Ross and Company garage in Manning, and after serving in the Air Force in World War I, returned to work for the firm as a mechanic.

He was married to Ann Volquartsen at Woodward in 1937. In 1940, he entered business for himself operating a service station and auto repair shop in Manning. He retired in 1961 and had been in ill health for the last year.

Surviving are his wife, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan; two sisters and five brothers.

Mr. Jansen was a 50-year member of the American Legion at Manning and belonged to the post's Drum and Bugle Corps. He was a past member of the Manning Fire Department, and of the Manning Schuetzen Verein, serving as dance manager for the latter for many years.


Emil & Ann are buried in the Manning Cemetery.
