Fred Gruhn, 62, Died April 13
Spirit Lake farmer, Fred Gruhn, 62, died Sunday afternoon, April 13, 1952, at Holy Family Hospital at Estherville, Iowa, of a heart ailment. His home is near the Sand Bar northeast of Spirit Lake.

He had been in ill health for several years and was entered at the hospital only a few days before his death. Funeral services will be held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with Pastor John M. Ansorge, officiating. Interment will be in the Lake View Cemetery, Spirit Lake, Iowa. The American Legion will perform military honors at the service. Fred Gruhn having been a member of the Armed Forces in World War I.

Surviving are the widow, Gertrude, and four children, Don, who is operating the home farm; Becky a nurse at the Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Dodge, Iowa; Mrs. Darall (Dorothy) Determan of Terril, Iowa; and Mrs. Muhrl (Margie) Linquist of Clear Lake, Iowa. Four brothers and three sisters also survive.

Fred was the son of William Gruhn, Sr., and Dorothea (Klautke) Gruhn, born in Germany in1888.

Fred Gruhn has been a resident of the Spirit Lake community since 1934, moving here from Templeton.
