Last Rites Held For Martin Fritz
Funeral services for Marty Fritz were held Friday afternoon at the Ohde Funeral Home with Rev. F.C. Aldrich, pastor of the Manning Methodist Church, officiating. Mr. Fritz, an ex-service man, Private, Co. F, 87th Infantry, 1918-1919, was given military rites. Pallbearers were Emil Kuhl, Henry E. Meyers, Fred Petersen, Peter F. Hansen, H.A. Schelldorf, Ernest D. Sutherland. Interment was in the Manning Cemetery.

Martin Edwin Fritz was born to Andrew Jackson and Anna Johann (Kortum) Fritz at Manning, Iowa, on May 5th, 1897, and died at the Veteran's Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa, at 7 o'clock Tuesday evening, the 17th day of June, 1941, after a protracted illness, the last 29 days of which were spent in the hospital.

The deceased lived in Manning for the most of his life, and received his education in the schools of this town. For about 12 years he was in the employment of the Manning Creamery, and for the last four years he served with Frank Pilley and Son of Sioux City, Iowa.

He found much pleasure in sports such as hunting and fishing. In his boyhood days he was a regular attendant upon Sunday School at the Methodist Church.

He was married to Arnetha A. Flenker (1905 - 1984) at Fort Dodge, Iowa, on the 5th day of September, 1928 and to this union there were born: Delwin Martin, who died in infancy; and Ronald Duane and Allen Edwin.

Mr. Fritz was a member of the American Legion, Emil Ewoldt Post 22, of Manning.

His father passed away on January 10, 1901, when Martin was 3 years of age, and his only sister, Mrs. Walter Bornhoft died on December 15, 1918.

Surviving him are his wife, the two children, Ronald and Allen, his mother, Mrs. Anna Fritz of Manning, three brothers: Louis of Irene, South Dakota; Fred of Missouri Valley, Iowa; and Jay, of Los Angeles, California; a brother through adoption, Gilbert of Correctionville, Iowa, and many uncles, aunts and cousins on both sides of the family.

The deceased will be greatly missed by both relatives and friends. And for the sorrowing wife and children, in particular, as well as for other immediate relatives, great sympathy will be felt.

Out of town relatives and friends attending the services were Mr. Louis Fritz, son Dale, daughters Phyllis and Betty Lou of Irene, South Dakota, Mr. and Mrs. Luverne Nelson, Wakanda, South Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Fritz of Missouri Valley; Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Fritz, Correctionville, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Vermuele, Carroll, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ryan of Vail; Mrs. Fern Carey, Manilla; Mrs. A.H. Bolte, Mrs. Vernon Huffman of Harlan; Mrs. Stanley Cushing and son Bobby, Mrs. Woodrow Flenker and children, Lucina and Wayne Flenker, Miss Florence Fonken of Dubuque; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Fonken, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Fonken Jr., Mrs. Bob Irhke, Mrs. Elmer Mills, Rudolph Fonken of Lake City; Miss Elsie Vickers, Mr. Clarence Radzlaff of Scranton, Mr. Earl Minter of Vail.


Martin and Arnetha are buried in the Manning Cemetery.
