GEORGE EHLERS

Military funeral rites for George Ehlers, 73, of Manning, were held on Monday morning, September 1, 1969, at 11:00 at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, with Rev. Robert Rushing of the Manning Presbyterian Church officiating. Judy Joens was the soloist, and Bonita Hagedorn, the organist.

Casketbearers included Ray Sander, Raymond Ehlers, Ed Steen, George Wegner, Walter Ehlers, and Frank Wegner. Burial was in the Manning Cemetery.

Son of Fritz and Anna (Wegner) Ehlers, he was born June 11, 1896, in Iowa Township, Crawford County, and attended schools near his home.

Following service in World War I, he returned to farm with his parents, and later was employed by the Doud Milling Company in Manning. For the past twenty years he made his home in Manning, first with his parents, and later with his sister, Mrs. Emma Hagedorn.

He had been in ill health for two years and entered the VA Hospital in Des Moines six weeks ago. He died Thursday evening, August 28, 1969.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Emma Hagedorn, Herman Ehlers, Manning; Mrs. Florence Witt, Carroll; Mrs. Rose Stuhr, Glidden; Mrs. Selma Kuebler, St. Petersburg, Florida, and Fred and Ernest Ehlers of Manning.


George Ehlers is buried in the Manning Cemetery.
