GROVER STEEN

Funeral services for Grover Steen, 78, will be held Thursday, January 11, at 11:00 a.m. in the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning. Rev. Don Griffin of the United Methodist Church will officiate with burial in the Manning Cemetery. Mrs. Judy Joens will be soloist with Mrs. Beverly Mitchell as organist and military honors by the American Legion and V.F.W. posts of Manning.

Grover Steen, the son of Henry and Rose (Ehlers) Steen, was born June 8, 1894 in Carroll County. He attended school near his home and the Manning schools. Grover farmed with his father and served overseas during World War I. He was married on September 22, 1920, to Ella Gruhn, after which they farmed near Botna until 1948 when they moved to Manning. Mr. Steen was in failing health the past seven years and died at his home Monday morning, January 8, 1973.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Manning, the American Legion and V.F.W. posts of Manning.

Grover was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ida, in infancy.

Survivors include his wife, Ella, two daughters: Mrs. Merlin (Betty) Welch, Grape Vine, Texas; Mrs. Robert (Velma) Kruse, Manilla; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers: Emil Steen, Manning; Ed Steen, Manning; and one sister, Mrs. Frank (Amanda) Stoelk of Manning.


Grover & Ella are buried in the Manning Cemetery.
