GEORGE SCHROEDER

George Schroeder, 78, of Manning died Saturday, January 13, 1973, at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. He had been a patient there since January 8.

Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Ohde Funeral Home, Manning, The Rev. Allan M. Peterson, minister of the First Presbyterian Church in Carroll, officiated. Mrs. Robert Gulling of Mitchellville, Iowa, was soloist and Bonita Hagedorn was organist.

Pallbearers were Russell Schroeder, Elden Schroeder, Gerald Schroeder, Ralph Buckly, Leonard Petersen, and Ray Meyer. Burial was in the Manning Cemetery where military rites were conducted by Manning American Legion Post No. 22 and V.F.W. Post No. 3517.

Mr. Schroeder was born March 13, 1894, in Washington Township, Carroll County, a son of August and Caroline (Tank) Schroeder. He attended rural schools near his home and served overseas in World War I. He farmed in Hayes Township, Crawford County, upon his return.

His marriage to Maria Petersen took place March 28, 1922. They retired to Arcadia and later to Carroll. Mrs. Schroeder died in 1960. He had made his home at the Manning Plaza for the past two years.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Carroll, of the Manning American Legion post and of the Hayes Township Schuetzen Verein.

Survivors include a son-In-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd (Clarris) Brandt of Des Moines; two grandchildren, Sally Brandt of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Craig Brandt of Des Moines; and the following brothers and sisters, Harry, Albert, Otto, Herb, Mrs. Hilda Carstens, and Mrs. Lolida Wagner, all of Manning; Mrs. Clara Petersen of Westside, and Mrs. Elma Meyers of Denison.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Willie.
