Leo Goedert Of Varina Dies In Vet's Hospital

Leo G. Goedert, 56, of Varina, Iowa, son of Mrs. Elizabeth Goedert of Carroll, died at 9:55 last night, April 23, 1951, in the Veterans hospital, Des Moines, where he had been a patient most of the time since January 1.

Funeral services are tentatively set for 9 a.m. Thursday at Saint Columbkilles Church, Varina, of which he was a member. Burial will be in the parish cemetery there.

Mr. Goedert was a Veteran of World War I, having served overseas with the army.

A son of John Goedert, deceased, and Elizabeth (Wolf) Goedert, he was born April 14, 1895, at Alton, Iowa. He attended school at Alton and SS. Peter and Paul's school in Carroll after his parents and family moved to this county.

Surviving are his widow, the former Mary Josephine Pille of Maple River; five children: Elgie and Leo, Jr, Varina; Mrs. Donald Troldl (Pearl), Storm Lake; Alice and Betty, at home; four grandchildren; his mother; five sisters and three brothers: Mrs. Frank Daley (Josephine) and Mrs. H.J. Traner (Ann), Carroll; Mrs. John McGrane (Viola), Wadena, Minnesota; Mrs. Henry J. Eischeid (Lucinda), Halbur; O.G. Goedert, Pontiac, Michigan; Mrs. E.W. Neubaum (Lorene), Manning, and Harold J. Goedert, Santa Cruz, California.

His father died in 1919.

Mr. and Mrs. Goedert farmed north of Carroll until about 12 years ago, when they bought a farm near Varina, which is the present home.
