HENRY EDWARD ARP
Henry Edward Arp, 77, of Manning died Monday evening, November 2, 1970, at St. Anthony, Hospital in Carroll. He had been in failing health since an accident while working eight years ago. He entered St. Anthony Hospital five weeks ago.

Funeral services will be a 2 p.m. Thursday at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, with the Rev. Andrew Stewart Morris, pastor of the Manning Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Manning Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion and the V.F.W. Friends may call at the Ohde Funeral Home after p.m. Tuesday.

Mr. Arp was born August 2 1893, in Comanche, Clinton County, the son of Elizabeth Blakley and Edward Arp. He came to the Manning community as a young boy with his family. He attended rural schools and worked on the farm.

Mr. Arp served overseas during World War I, and was married to Catherine Passick on November 24, 1920, in Carroll. They made their home in Manning, where Mr. Arp worked for 38 years with Priebe and Sons. He was a member of the Manning Methodist Church, the V.F.W., and a 50-year member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife and three children, Lyle O. Arp, Mrs. Joe (Marian) Knueven, and Norman E. Arp; one sister, Mabel Arp; ten grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, all of Manning. Mr. Arp was preceded in death by one grandson, Robert Knueven; two brothers, John and Joseph Arp; and one sister, Mrs. Anna Frank.


Funeral Rites This Afternoon For Edward Arp Manning Resident
Dies Suddenly While Sitting In Chair

Funeral services for Edward Arp, 79, who died suddenly Saturday afternoon, February 29, 1936, while sitting in a chair, were held this afternoon at the Ohde Funeral home. Rev. A.D. Steffenson of the Methodist Church officiated at the services. Music was furnished by the Presbyterian quartet. Interment was in the Manning Cemetery.

Mr. Arp had been in failing health for some time, but each day was able to be up and around. His daughter, with whom he made his home, went into the room to talk to him and found him sitting in his chair dead.

Born at Camanche, Mr. Arp was born on December 24, 1856, at Camanche, Iowa. In 1879, he moved from Camanche to Shelby and in 1903, located on a farm near Manning.

Miss Elizabeth Blakeley became his bride on January 12, 1876, at Camanche. She passed away on November 25, 1924.

Those Who Survive
Survivors include the following children: Anna, Frank, Irwin, and John, all of Woodbine, Henry and Miss Mabel of Manning, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

In 1916, Mr. Arp retired from the farm and moved to Manning where he had since lived.


Henry & Catherine are buried in the Manning Cemetery.
