HERMAN LAMP

Herman, son of Joachim and Agnes (Wiese) Lamp, was born August 7, 1892, Iowa Township, Crawford County. He attended country schools. At the age of eight, he moved with his family southeast of Manning in Ewoldt Township.

During World War I he served his country in the United States Army in France.

On December 14, 1938, he was united in marriage with Amanda Koester. They farmed on the home farm southeast of Manning until retiring to live in Manning on February 1, 1968.

Herman had been in failing health for a year, but had remained active until early this year. He died at the Manning General Hospital on February 27, 1982, at the age of 89 years, 6 months, and 20 days.

Herman was preceded in death by his parents, by his brothers and sister: Marvin, Frank, Ed, Vertus, Gerhardt, Hubert, Charlie, and Jessie Voge.

He is survived by his wife, Amanda; two sisters-in-law, Minnie Lamp and Laura Lamp; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

Herman was a charter member of the American Legion Post 22 and of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3517. He was also a member of the first Rural Fire Truck Committee of the Manning Fire Department.

Services were held Tuesday, March 2, at 11 a.m. at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning with the Reverend Dennis Johnson officiating.
Organist was Connie Siepker and vocalist was Judy Joens.
Interment took place in the Manning Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Robert Hagedorn, Maurice Eickman Harold Wetzel, Alvan Hansen, Harold Hoffman, and Merlin Struve.
Military honors were given by American Legion Post 22 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3517 of Manning.


Herman Lamp is buried in the Manning Cemetery.
