Corporal Henry Emil Meyers, who returned last week from France and who was quartered at Camp Dodge, sent a telegram Saturday to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Meyers. They left Sunday for the camp to enjoy a few hours visit with him. From all indications he will be the first Manning soldier who has been in France to get back to Manning.

Henry E. Meyers, 85, 701 Oaknoll Drive, the father of Jo Adele (Mrs. Ray) Sullivan of Iowa City, died Saturday, January 28, 1984, at the Oaknoll Infirmary after a lengthy illness.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Oaknoll Retirement Home by the Rev. Jack Zerwas. Mr. Meyers' body has been donated to the University of Iowa Anatomy Department. There will be no visitation. George L. Gay Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Order of Eastern Star Home in Boone.

Mr. Meyers was born April 9, 1895, in Manning, the son of Henry W. and Anna (Hansen) Meyers. He attended Capitol City Commercial College of Des Moines and was a banker at the Manning Trust and Savings Bank. He married Hazel Lusk July 2, 1921, in Omaha, Nebraska. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Manning. In 1950, he served as Worthy Grand Patron of the Order of Eastern Star in Iowa.

He was a veteran of World War I, a life member of the Emil Ewoldt Post No. 22 of the American Legion, Masonic Lodge No. 450 of Manning, the Tangier Shrine Temple of Omaha, and a 50-year Salona Chapter No. 23 Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include his wife; his daughter; one son, William of Milwaukee, Minnesota; one brother, Alfred of Carroll, Iowa; one sister, Florence Kelsey of Novato, California; five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Three sisters and one brother died earlier.
