CLARK HERSHMAN IS IN LEGHORN, ITALY
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hershman have received their first overseas letter from their son, Pvt. Clark Hershman, who is located in Leghorn, Italy.

He states that he is doing office work, that they are living in a stone building, have plenty of good food. They have days off when they can visit adjoining cities such as Florence and Rome.
He plays basketball each evening and has plenty of recreation.


Phones Parents From Switzerland
While awaiting transportation home from Lucerne, Switzerland, Sgt. Clark Hershman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hershman of Manning, placed a long-distance phone call to them Friday afternoon and stated he hoped to be home by Christmas.
Sgt. Hershman has been stationed in Leghorn, Italy, and was en route home with his buddy, Sgt. Joe Kreesberg of Spencer, Iowa.

In Memory of Clark F. Hershman

Clark F. Hershman, 84, of Rock Island, Illinois, died Sunday, April 24, 2011, in his son's home in Rock Island, surrounded by his family.

Services are 6 p.m. Thursday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with a gathering of family and friends from 5 to 6 p.m. Private burial will be in Manning, Iowa. Memorials may be made to Trinity Pathway Hospice.

Clark Frederick Hershman was born February 16, 1927, in Manning, Iowa, the son of Charles Blaine and Minnie Elizabeth (Tessman) Hershman. He graduated from Manning High School in 1945. He married Mollie Jean Geith on July 27, 1949, in Papillion, Nebraska. He graduated from the Milwaukee School of Engineering. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II, from 1945 to 1947, and later served in the U.S. Navy Reserves from 1947 to 1952. He was employed as a weapons specialist at the Rock Island Arsenal from 1951 until retiring in 1982, and traveled extensively during the Korean and Vietnam Wars as a member of the Army Weapons Command.

Clark was an avid fisherman, gardener, and reader, and loved spending time with his family.

Clark is survived by his wife, Mollie; four children, Steve Hershman and his companion Diana Sears of Andover, Illinois; Kathy Gannon of Overland Park, Kansas; Scott Hershman and his wife Teresa of Rock Island; and Kristin Fornwalt and her husband Brent of St. Louis, Missouri; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Gertrude Lloyd of Houston, Texas. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard.
