Junior was inducted into the United States Army on January 3, 1946. He served as a Military Policeman in the occupation of Germany following World War II. After receiving his honorable discharge on April 2, 1947, Junior returned to Iowa to farm.

Joseph Anton "Junior", son of Joseph and Anna Muhlbauer Hugeback was born August 31, 1927, near Templeton, Iowa. He grew up in the Templeton and Manning area, attending school in Halbur.
On January 3, 1946, Junior was inducted into the United States Army and served as a Military Policeman in occupation Germany following World War II. After receiving his honorable discharge on April 2, 1947, Junior returned to Iowa to farm.

On January 11, 1950, Junior was united in marriage with Mary Ann Willenborg. Four children were, born to this union. They farmed near Manning, and Junior held other various jobs including truck driver. Mary Ann died on June 28, 1976.

On March 15, 1980, Junior was united in marriage with Jean Henkelman Arp, and they made their home in Manning. Junior continued to farm until retiring in 1989. Jean died January 22, 1998. Junior was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Manning. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling, fishing, traveling and spending time at the lake and with his grandchildren.

On Saturday, December 23, 2000, Junior died at Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning after a brief bout with cancer. He was 73 years, 3 months and 22 days of age.

Besides his parents and wives, Junior was preceded in death by a sister Esther.

He is survived by his children: Lydia and her husband Bob Lehrkamp of Des Moines; Becky and her husband John Moeller of Badger; Keith Hugeback of Arcadia; Kent Hugeback and his wife Kristy of Manning; four step-children: Norma and her husband Raymond Hagedorn of Manning; Dan Arp and his wife Donna of Manning; Cathy and her husband Randy Tigges of Carroll; and Marc Arp and his wife Trish of Manning; 13 grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother Leon Hugeback and his wife Barb of New Hampton; his mother-in-law Mayme Willenborg of Carroll; five sisters-in-law: Colette Willenborg and Elsie Willenborg, both of Carroll; Helen and her husband Raymond Kock of Westside; Alice and her husband Vernon Scheel of Willington, Illinois; Rita and her husband John Cruise of Fremont, Nebraska; four brothers-in-law: Joe Drake of Bayard; Lyle Rowedder of Manning; Leo Henkelman of Lavern, Oklahoma; John Henkelman and his wife Helen of Odebolt; and by nieces, nephews, nther relatives and friends
