JAY LYNN BINGHAM

Jay Lynn Bingham, age 81, of 915 South 8th St., Clear Lake, passed away at a Mason City Hospital September 17, 1980.

Jay, the son of Samuel Bingham and Alta Shepard, was born August 14, 1899 in Manning, Iowa. He was a graduate of Manning High School and attended Iowa State. He served in the army during World War I. He was married to Claribel Griffith November 30, 1922 in Mason City.

They moved to Manning where he was a rural mail carrier until he retired in 1963. He was very active in civic affairs in Manning. He belonged to Rural Letter Carriers Association, United Methodist Church at Clear Lake, and his hobby was knitting afghans and hooking rugs. He won a blue ribbon at the Iowa State Fair on a knitted afghan. Jay and his wife moved to Clear Lake in 1975.

Services were held Saturday, September 20, 1980 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake with Dr. Lyle Lieder officiating.

Organist was Mary Jane Reynolds, soloist was Wilbur Schram.

Honary pallbearers were Dirk Bingham and Paul Bernhagen.

Pall bearers were George Rickoff, Leland Ross, Owen Taylor, John Micklick, David Wetsch, and Howard Preston.
Interment was, in Memorial, Park Cemetery at Mason City, Ia.
Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel of Clear Lake was in charge of the service.

He was preceded in death by a brother and sister.

Survivors are his wife, Claribel of Clear Lake; son, Dale Bingham of North Liberty, Iowa, a daughter, Mrs. John (Joyce) Hudgens of Des Moines, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. Ray (Lois) Rumsey, Escondido, Calif.; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
