FRIENDS RAISE FUND FOR DISABLED MAN
When misfortune descended on John Ewoldt, a veteran of the World War, and took from him an arm slashed off in a corn shredder, friends and neighbors in the Aspinwall area set out to do something for John, his wife, and two children.
By popular subscription and benefit dances these friends were able to raise $3,000 and this has just reached Ewoldt in the form of a check received in the mail.
Ewoldt is one of four brothers who served overseas during the war. One brother, Emil, was killed in action and the Manning, Iowa, Legion post bears his name.

Obituary of John Ewoldt

John William Ewoldt, son of William and Margaret Ewoldt, as born November 20, 1890, at Aspinwall.

He lived most of his life around Aspinwall. It was here that he grew to manhood and followed the occupation of farming.

He was united in marriage to Frieda Hansen January 28, 1920. There were born to this union two sons and one daughter.

Mr. Ewoldt was a veteran of the first World War. He was inducted into military service April 29, 1918.

He served in Co. M 357th infantry. He saw active service in the St. Michels offensive and Villers and Hage sector. He was wounded September 13, 1918. He received his honorable discharge, June 16, 1919, after 14 months of military service. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart.

He has not been in the best of health the last 15 years of his life. In 1940 he and his family moved to Denison where he made his home the remainder of his life.

He was taken seriously sick last Monday and died January 8. He had reached the age of 57 years, 1 month, and 19 days.

He was baptized in the Lutheran faith at an early age.

He leaves to mourn his widow, Frieda, two sons, Iven of Ricketts and Lynn of Denison, and one daughter, Mrs. LaVonne Kluver of Mapleton; two brothers, Henry of Manilla and Alfred of Vail; one sister, Laura Hell of Manning; three grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Huebner funeral home Sunday afternoon with the Rev. Roy H. Larson in charge.
