John D. Jansen

Services for John Delph Jansen were Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Winner. The Rev. Edwin Coates officiated. Burial was in the Hillview Cemetery in Dallas, South Dakota. Graveside military honors were by the Witten and Dallas American Legion.

He died January 19, 1988, at the Gregory Nursing Home.

Jansen was born August 18, 1895, in Manning, Iowa, to Louis E. and Katharina (Frahm) Jansen. He moved with his family to a farm northwest of Dallas in 1910.

He was a member of the U.S. Army Machine Gun Company of themn 350th Infantry and served in France during World War I.

He married Mary Delilah LeZotte at Dallas. They lived near Dallas until 1927 when they moved to a farm near Mosher and then to Todd County in 1937.

After his wife's death in 1969, he married Leona Pauline Figert on October 30, 1971. They lived east of Mission until 1984 when Jansen entered the Gregory Nursing Home where he lived until his death.

He was a member of World War I Barracks SD-Po16 of Gregory, the American Legion of Witten, a charter member of Don Dorian American Legion Post of Okreek, a charter member of the Mission United Methodist Church, a member of the Masonic Lodge, Antelope Lodge No. 209 of Mission, a Shriner of Naja Temple of Deadwood, and the Consistory of Yankton.

Jansen is survived by his wife, Leona of Mission; two daughters, Elizabeth (Mrs. Elvis) Hansen of Winner; Forence Merchen of Springfield; three sons, George of Lacey, Washington; Jack of Mission; and Harry of Reliance; three brothers, Albert of Manning, Iowa; Wilbert of Castana, Iowa; and Ray of Omaha; two sisters, Freda Dunn of Burke; and Leone Young of Moline, Illinois; one step-son, Ervin Figert of Mission; three step-daughters, Jacqueline Fisher of Kalispell, Montana; Sandra Dillon of Mission; and Ruth Pedula of Leavenworth, Kansas; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; and three great-step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, one infant son, three brothers, two sisters, one granddaughter, and one great-grandson.

Kotrba Funeral Home of Gregory was in charge of arrangements.
