Funeral services for John "Jack" Nicholas Meisel, 80, a retired electrical foreman on line construction were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Donald Jones, pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial, with military honors by the Manning American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts, was in the Manning Cemetery.

Mr. Meisel died Thursday, January 8, 1981, at the Thomas Rest Haven Nursing Home in Coon Rapids where he had been a resident for 10 years.

Casketbearers were Carl Meisel, Benny Ress, Bill Waterbury, Earl Meisel, Vernon Ehlers, and Morris Ford.

Surviving are three children: Ron Meisel, Princeton, Missouri; Mrs. Daryl (Kathryn) Stuckmyer, Marshalltown, and Richard Meisel, Marshalltown; three grandchildren: Anthony Stuckmyer, Boyd and Laura Meisel; a sister Mrs. Hugo Ress, Manning; a brother LeRoy Meisel, Indianola; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Clyde and two sisters: Lillian Watts and Myrtle East.

Mr. Meisel was born February 21, 1900, in Roselle Township, Carroll County, a son of Benjamin and Ola (Williams) Meisel. The family moved to Manning in 1902 and he attended schools there.

On March 27, 1918, he enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve and a year later joined the. U.S. Navy where for four years he was a fireman aboard the U.S.S. Idaho. He worked most of his life as an electrical foreman and spent many years working for the Hocks Construction Company on line construction prior to his retirement. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.


John Meisel is buried in the Manning Cemetery.
