JOE STEEN
Joe Steen, 70, Manning, died Tuesday, October 17, 1961, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Omaha, where he had been a patient since August 31. He had been ill for about a year.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 20, at the Ohde Funeral Home here. The Rev. Carl Sinning, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, will officiate.

Mrs. Henry W. Hagedorn will be organist and Ray Pratt, vocal soloist, for the service. Military honors will be given at Manning Cemetery by the ceremonials team of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts, who will also serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Steen was born January 7, 1891, at Lost Nation, coming to Manning as a small child with his parents.

He worked as a farm hand and spent several years working on farms near Remsen; and for the past 15 years had been employed by the Chicago Great Western Railroad.

During World War I, Mr. Steen served overseas. He lived with his mother until her death in 1949. On September 1, 1953, he was married to Mrs. Mary Koester.

Surviving are his wife; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Bernard Hathcock, Atlanta, Georgia; a brother, William Steen, Knierim, Iowa; and a sister, Mrs. Ella Dittman, Harris, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Catharine Steen; and four sisters, Mrs. Minnie Sonksen, Mrs. Bertha Schmidt, Mrs. Elsie Petersen and Mrs. Hans Pfoltner.


Joe Steen is buried in the Manning Cemetery.
