John D. Noble

Mahala Matthews, daughter of Calvin and Sarah (Thompson) Matthews married John D. Noble, October 4, 1866, in Darlington, Wisconsin.
John was born in Indiana, June 1840. He enlisted August 15, 1862 and served through September 20 1865.
John was a First Sergeant, E 30 Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry.

They had four children: Otto, Iona, Lester, and one more child.
Otto & Iona are buried in the Manning Cemetery.

In 1900, John & Mahala were living in Blanchard, Wisconsin, where he was employed as a boarding house keeper.
Mahala was born in 1848 in Indiana and died June 15, 1928. She is buried in Inglewood Park Cemetery, Inglewood, California.
She filed for widows pension June 28, 1911, in Wisconsin.

OBITUARY.
John Noble was born June 5, 1840, in Morgan County, Indiana and died June 20 Perkins County, South Dakota, where he has resided the past 10 years. For a month he had not been feeling well on June 20 he passed away, his death being caused by heart disease. When the war broke out he enlisted for 100 days and then re-enlisted for two months, after which he enlisted for three years. He served the full time in Company E, 30 Wisconsin Regiment. On October 4, 1866, he was married to Miss Matilda Mathews at Burlington Wisconsin. In 1886, they moved on a farm 5 miles south of Manning. One girl died during infancy, Iona in 1886, and Otto in 1887. The remains were brought to Manning where burial took place, the G.A.R. having charge of the exercises. Rev. Hosier took charge of the services at the church. A wife, son who is in California and a brother survives to mourn the departed one. The deceased will be remembered as the man who built the Park Hotel.
