Emil Kuhl received highest honors when he was given the "Lifetime Membership" certificate in the American Legion in recognition of his many years of service.


EMIL KUHL

Emil Kuhl, 78, died unexpectedly Sunday, July 1, 1973, at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. He had been transferred there about a week ago from Manning General Hospital, which he entered May 31, 1973.

The funeral will be Tuesday, July 3, at 2 p.m. at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning. The Rev. Don Griffin of the United Methodist Church in Manning will officiate. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Monday at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning. Interment with military honors will be in the Manning Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Charles Laverty, Merlin Struve, Chris Schmidt, Jack Horbach, Herbert Bruhn, and Paul Vollmer.

Mr. Kuhl was born March 14, 1895, in Manning, the son of Peter and Louisa (Lohmeier) Kuhl. He attended Manning schools, and married Pearl Esycheck December 17, 1914.

He served in the military during World War I. Following his discharge, he operated a restaurant in Manning until his retirement in 1960. Manning continued to be his home.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 22 in Manning and a past member of the Manning fire department.

He was preceded in death by one great-grandson, two brothers and one sister.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Bob (Margaret) Kuhl of Denison; one granddaughter; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Bonita Hagedorn, Manning; and one brother, Pete Kuhl, Manning.
