Four years spent in Wyoming are all the time Leon Hass has been away from his home county of Carroll in his 65 years.

Leon's first job was with the Nielsen Harness shop before going into shoe repair business for himself in 1919. He has continued that business until the present time, supplementing it 10 years ago with the line of Foot-so-Port shoes.

Two children were born to Leon and his wife, Amalia, namely, Harry, administrative sergeant with the National guard at Denison and the Rev LeRoy, Lutheran missionary to Tokyo, Japan, who is currently visiting here with his family. There are eight grandchildren.

Leon has been active in Zion Lutheran church. He was an elder, served as treasurer and on the finance board. He also belongs to Lutheran Laymen's League.

A veteran of World War I, he is a member of the American Legion. He lists as his hobbies, outdoor sports, especially hunting and fishing.

Long-time Resident, Businessman Dies
Services for Leon Hass, 79, of Manning, were held at a.m. Saturday in Zion Lutheran Church Burial was in the Manning Cemetery with military honors.

Mr. Hass died August 15, 1974, at Manning General Hospital, where he had been a patient since August 8.

A son of Peter and Hannah (Kortum) Hass, he was born February 11, 1895, on a Carroll County farm north of Manning. He attended rural schools, and as a boy, lived with his family in Wyoming for four years, returning to Manning in 1909. He served in the Army during World War I.

On February 5, 1919, he married Amalia (Molly) Hansen and they have lived since then in Manning. He operated a shoe store and repair shop. In 1965 he sold the shoe store and continued the repair business in his home until his death. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and held various offices in the church. He also was a member of the Lutheran Laymen's League and American Legion Post No. 22.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Alfred and Harry.

Survivors include his wife, Molly; two sons: Harry Hass of Denison, and Rev. Leroy Hass of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; one step-sister, Mrs. Clyde McCord of Nevada, Iowa, and one step-brother, Lester Rice of Warrensville, Illinois.

Casketbearers were Elmer Mueller, Emil Opperman, Herman Pahde, Herman Musfeldt, Arthur Fielweber, and William Joens.

The countless kindnesses extended by our many friends and relatives during our bereavement will long be remembered.
Special thanks are due the Reverend Heinicke who brought the love of the Good Shepherd, Doctors Myer and Chandler for their skillful and dedicated care, Dorcas Society for their unselfish service, the employees of the Manning Hospital for their watchful concern; those who gave flowers food and other gifts to share, those whose monetary gifts will aid the church of God in their service in this world, the American Legion and VFW who remind us of the blessings of U.S. citizenship.
