Dale Andrew Leinen, 63, of Manning, died Monday, November 15, 1993, at his home near Manning.

Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated 2 p.m. on Friday, November 19, 1993, at Sacred Heart Church in Manning. The celebrant was Reverend Father Ralph Reihnart. Music for the service was provided by the Sacred Heart Choir. Interment was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Manning. Military honors were conducted by Veterans of Foreign War Post 3517, Emil Ewoldt Post 22 of the American Legion.

Casketbearers were Merlin Nulle, Wayne Ranniger, William Ranniger, Gene Lohrmann, Alan Lorenzen, and Kent Gruhn.

Honorary casketbearers were Lynn Phillips, Dean Poeppe, Andrew Leinen, Eric Leinen, and Karl Leinen.

A prayer service followed by a rosary was at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 18, at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning.

Dale Leinen was born on November 12, 1930, in Harrison County, the son of Andrew and Leone (Schwery) Leinen. He attended the Portsmouth Catholic School for 1 1/2 years before his family moved in 1939 south of Botna. He attended rural schools in Shelby County until the family moved in 1944 to Audubon County.

He attended high school in Audubon for two years before transferring to Manning High School where he graduated in 1948.

He enlisted in the United States Air Force in January of 1951 where he worked with heavy equipment in construction. While in the military service he was stationed many places in the world, including Europe and the South Pacific. He served four tours in Korea and two tours in Vietnam. After 28 years in the military, he retired and lived in Las Vegas for several years, where he worked on construction. In 1983, he moved to Alaska where he continued to work in construction.

On April 13, 1989, he was united in marriage with Cathy Kennedy in Manning. In November of 1991 the couple came to Manning for his father's funeral and decided to stay. Shortly after returning to Manning his health began to fail.

Surviving are his wife, Cathy of Manning; his children, Dale Jr., and his wife, Gail, of Boston, Massachusetts, Gene Leinen of Council Bluffs, Blaine Leinen of Council Bluffs, and Tony Leinen of Council Bluffs; two granddaughters; a brother, Alan Leinen and his wife, Alma, of Omaha, Nebraska; three sisters, Ethel Poeppe and her husband, Lorin, of Torrington, Wyoming, Audrey Phillips and her husband, Robert, of Manning, and Doris Sembach and her husband, Robert, of Spencer; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and by a son, Melvin Leinen.

He was a member of Sacred Heart parish in Manning, the V.F.W. and the American Legion.
