Sgt. Melvin Grimm, 35, went into service in February 1943. He left for overseas service in January 1944. He has been stationed in New Guinea and took part in the Philippine invasion.

Cpl. Melvin (Toots) Grimm writes from New Guinea thanking the Legion and Monitor for the paper even though it does not reach him too regularly.
He states he is fine, but does not care too much about the climate.
Sends his best regards to all the folks back home, not forgetting any of the Dultmeier manufacturing company, hoping he can be back with them soon again.

Funeral mass for Melvin Grimm, 59, Manning was held at Sacred Heart Church in Manning at 10:00 a.m. on Friday morning, March 28, with Rev. Norbert Weber officiating.

Military honors in Sacred Heart Cemetery were accorded by the Ceremonials team of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Son of Ed and Dora Vinke Grimm, he was born December 26, 1909, at Manning, and attended schools here. He was employed as a machine operator by Dultmeier Mfg. Co. and later by M-J-M Enterprises since 1937, with the exception of time spent in service during World War II.

He married Florence Stangl in 1941. They had one daughter, La Donna, who lives in Omaha.

Mr. Grimm died at noon on Tuesday, March 25, 1969, at the Des Moines Veterans Hospital, following an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, and daughter and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Herbert (Leona) Schroeder, Manning; Edwin, Manilla; Paul, Moline, Ernest, Manning; Mrs. Ray (Dorothy) Mohr, Manning; Clousie, Manning; George, living in Florida; Mrs. John (Delores) Balukoff, Manning; Willis, Missouri Valley.

The parish Rosary, led by Rev. Weber was prayed at the Ohde Funeral Home at 8:00 on Thursday, followed by the Altar and Rosary Society at 8:30 p.m.
