Hansen, Manning Man, Delegate To Ration Meet
Peter F. Hansen has been selected by J.S. Russell, regional food distribution administrator, and Edward F. Stegen, regional ration executive of OPA, as a delegate to a nine-state regional conference at Hotel Ft. Des Moines, involving all enterprises interested in point rationing of foods and rationed banking. This conference has been called jointly by the U.S. Food Administration and the OPA.
Delegates will include bankers, manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers.
Mr. and Mrs. Hansen are spending Sunday and Monday in Des Moines.

SARASOTA, Fla. -- Peter F. Hansen, 90, a former Manning, Iowa, businessman and a former Iowa state senator, died Sunday, January 27, after a stroke in his home in Sarasota.
The body was cremated and memorial services will be conducted later in Manning. Mr. Hansen, who had lived in Sarasota for 12 years, was active in community affairs. He was a member of the Shrine and Rotary club.
He was born on a farm near Manning and attended Manning schools graduating in 1912.
He operated the Hansen & Pahde Company, a Manning general store for several years. He was an agent for Investors Diversified Services for 10 years and was a past president of the Iowa Food and Meat Dealers Association.

Mr. Hansen was first elected to the Iowa Senate in 1958 and served from 1959 through 1966. He was on several committees, including Judiciary, and was sponsor of 37 bills during his tenure, including a measure to allow parimutuel betting in Iowa. He was also a supporter of a measure that allowed yellow margarine to be sold in the state, at that time a very controversial issue. He served as vice chairman of Council of State Government, a group comprised of representatives from 14 Midwestern states.
He was a past vice commander of the Iowa American Legion. He was also among the retired businessmen who sold programs at the Chicago White Sox games during spring training and was an avid golfer.

Mr. Hansen was an organizer and former member of the Manning Drum and Bugle Corps and an active member of the Emil Ewoldt American Legion post in Manning.
Pete was the last surviving Charter member of Emil Ewoldt Post #22. American Legion which he served as Adjutant and Commander, later as County Commander, Eighth District Commander and rising to State Vice Commander.

He was an active member of the Manning Chamber of Commerce and helped organize the project to construct the Legion Hall in Manning. He is survived by his wife, Inez.

An inurnment service is planned for Peter F. Hansen on Sunday, June 23, 1985, at 3:00 p.m. in the Manning Cemetery. The Reverend Carl G. Sinning will be in charge with military honors by Emil Ewoldt Post 22 American Legion and Post 3517 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Immediately following a memorial service will be held in the Legion Hall with lunch served by the Auxiliary. Friends and relatives are invited to attend both services and pay last respects to the long-time Manning merchant, State Senator and American Legion supporter and benefactor.
Peter F. Hansen was born in Audubon County on January 19, 1895, and died in his home in Sarasota, Florida, one day after reaching 90 years.
He is survived by his wife, Inez.

Following the sale of the general store in the late 1960s Pete was an agent for Investors Diversified Services. He organized Heartland Productions, Inc. of West Des Moines which produced Iowa's first full length motion picture in Technicolor, "The Hostage."

Pete was an Elder in the First Presbyterian Church in Manning, a member for more than fifty years of Manual Lodge #450, AF&AM, member of the Eastern Star, Sioux City Consistory, and Za-Ga-Zig Shrine Temple, Des Moines. He was a Charter Member of the Manning Rotary Club and served as President. For many years he served as Director of Manning Trust and Savings Bank.

In 1973, Pete and his wife, Inez, who survives, moved to Sarasota, Florida where he continued active in community affairs, serving as SCORE Counselor, Gold Card member of Manasota Chapter #116, Charter member of Sahib Shrine Temple, Rotary Club, Sportsmens Club, Bobby Jones Country Club and star program salesman for the Chicago White Sox Baseball Team for 15 years.

National Cremation Society was in charge of services in Sarasota. Memorial services and interment in Manning will be held in the spring.

The Rev. Carl C. Sinning will be in charge of Military honors by Emil Ewoldt Post No. 22, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No 3517 of Manning.

Immediately following a memorial service will be held in the Legion Hall with the Post Auxiliary serving lunch. Friends and relatives are invited to both services.

After returning from service in World War I, Mr. Hansen and Herman Pahde operated a grocery-drygoods firm in Manning for many years. During this time he was active in statewide food and business groups, serving as president and vice president.

He was first elected to the Iowa Senate in 1958 and served from 1959 through 1966, had a perfect attendance record and sponsored 37 bills, one of which would have provided for pari-mutuel racing in Iowa.

Mr. Hansen played a large role in building the Legion Hall and organizing a drum and bugle corps. He was adjutant and commander, eighth district commander and state vice-commander. He gave numerous gifts over the years to the Legion post.

He was an elder in First Presbyterian church, member for over 50 years of Manual Lodge No. 450, A.F. & A.M.; Order of Eastern Star, Sioux City Consistory and Za-Ga-Zig Shrine Temple, Des Moines; a charter member of the Manning Rotary Club, and a director for many years of the Manning Trust & Savings Bank.


Peter F. Hansen is buried in the Manning Cemetery.
