Robert "Bob" Grundmeier

Robert D. "Bob" Grundmeier, age 82, of Carroll passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 15, 2016, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, December 19, 2016, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll with Pastor Brian Licht officiating. Organist for the service will be Jan Hoff and the congregation will sing. Military honors will be given at the church by the Carroll American Legion. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery at a later date.

Visitation will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll from 9:30 A.M. on Monday until the time of service.

Born on July 13, 1934, at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, he was the son of Alvin and Charlotte (Nobiling) Grundmeier. Bob was raised on a farm in Washington Township, Carroll, County, Iowa. He attended rural Washington No. 4 country school through the 8th grade, after which he graduated from Manning High School in 1952. He worked for Albert Neppl Trucking in Halbur for two years after graduation. In 1954 Bob volunteered for the draft to serve in the US Army, took basic training in Fort Bliss, Texas, after which he attended Nike I Guided Missile School also at Fort Bliss. Upon completion of missile school, his battery & equipment were shipped to a missile site in Virginia located on the west end of Langley Air Force Base in the woods, based out of Fort Monroe, Virginia. Bob was released from active duty in 1956 and honorably discharged in 1962.

On September 15, 1955, he was united in marriage to Betty Stuhr at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia, Iowa, by Pastor Theodore Tews. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2005. They made their homes in Hampton, Virginia; Chicago, Illinois; Manning, Audubon, Lake View, Sheldon and Carroll where they retired. Bob spent most of his life working in the electronic and electrical fields as an electrician, heating and air condition, electric motor repair and other services. He also taught for 4 years in the Electro Department at NITC in Sheldon, Iowa, as a related instructor teaching AC & DC theory and its math along with other related subjects. In 1979 he was employed by General Electric in Carroll as an Electronic & Electrical Technician, after 15 years he retired from General Electric.

Bob was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran LCMS faith at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia, by Pastor Theodore Tews. He was a lifelong member of several Lutheran Churches and served on many boards, served as church council secretary, and was chairman of finance and trustee boards, he also served as an usher.

Bob enjoyed fishing, gardening, crossword puzzles, genealogy and travel. Bob was a member of Carroll American Legion Post #7, and a past member of the Carroll County Genealogical Society.

Survivors include his wife Betty of Carroll; three sons: Rob Grundmeier (Joleen), Brian Grundmeier (Connie Meyer), and Todd Grundmeier all of Carroll; three Grandchildren; Christopher and Daniel Grundmeier of Carroll and Andrea Grundmeier of Carroll; a great granddaughter Arlihn Rittenbaugh of Carroll; a brother Stanley Grundmeier (Karen) of Arcadia; brothers and sister in-laws, Daryl and Lin Stuhr of Peru, Illinois; Allen and Joyce Wegner of Fairfax, Virginia, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his mother and father in-law Charles and Elda Stuhr.
