Donald "Colonel" Sutherland, who was down at Kirksville, Missouri, last week, heard the noted Sam Jones in one of his talks on Sunday, the 18th inst. In the course of his speech, Sam said: "I don't want you to misunderstand me. I was born in the South and am a Democrat. My father was in the Confederate Army and if I had been old enough I would have been there too. But now I want to tell you frankly and honestly that if I lived in the North I would be a Republican and thus be a member of the most respectable society," He divides the "honahs" pretty evenly.

The soldiers' reunion at Carroll on the 24th, 25th and 26th inst. promises to be a grand affair. The old soldiers from this vicinity, accompanied by the German band, will attend in full force. A special train is being arranged for which will leave Manning between 8 and 9 o'clock A.M. and returning leave Carroll about 5 p.m. If the weather remains good Carroll may expect the largest delegation from Manning she has ever had.
