Former Manning Man Killed In Rail Accident
Accident At Liberty, Missouri, Thursday Afternoon; No Details
Vernon Wilbur Patton, 44, formerly of Manning, was killed in an accident Thursday afternoon, April 8, 1937, at Liberty, Missouri, where he was a brakeman in the switch yards. No particulars as to the nature of the accident have been received. The accident occurred at 2:30 o'clock and Mr. Patton passed away at 4.

Mr. Patton, who was a cousin of Alice (Mrs. August) Warnke of Carroll, spent most of his life in Manning, where he was born July 24, 1893. He attended Manning High School. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and was active in church work, especially in the choir in which he sang bass.

He was married to Miss Virginia Emery of Manilla on December 10, 1915.

One daughter, Barbara, preceded him in death, passing away while the family lived at Manilla.

Survivors include his wife and three daughters, Margaret, who attends Penn college, Oskaloosa, Patricia and Betty Lou, and his step-father, William F. Carpenter, who lives in Manning. He was a nephew of Mr. and Mrs. Dwight W. Patton of Manning.

His mother, Mrs. William C. Carpenter, passed away December 7, 1936.

Funeral services will be held at Liberty, Missouri, at 2:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon, with burial in New Hope Cemetery, Liberty.
