Services Held for William Mergele

Funeral services for William Mergele, 51, were held Saturday afternoon, at the Ohde Funeral home in Manning. The Rev. W.P. Gauer of the Methodist Church officiated. Music was by the Presbyterian quartet, accompanied by Bonita (Mrs. Herman W.) Hagedorn.

Manning's VFW Post had charge of military rites, and the ceremonial team of Emil Ewoldt Post No. 22, American Legion, was in charge of graveside services in the Manning Cemetery.

Mr. Mergele, a navy veteran of World War I, and merchant marine veteran of World War II, was born August 25, 1899, in Washington Township to John George, Sr. and Dorothea "Dora" (Heesch) Mergele.

He died Wednesday morning, August 1, 1951, at Sportsman's Park in Manning. He was unmarried.
William was born August 25, 1899, in Manning to John and Dorothea (Heesch) Mergele.

He is survived by three brothers, John George Mergele and August Mergele in Minnesota; Anton "Tony" of Manning; and a sister, Mrs. Hugo (Anna Christina) Grundmeier, of Carroll.
Marie Mergele preceded him in death.


Find Body of Manning Man
The body of William Mergele, about 51 was found near a farm pond about a mile and a quarter west of here late this evening.

Sheriff Al Thorup and Dr. J. Lawrence Cochran, coroner, investigated.

Funeral arrangements have not been made.

Mr. Mergele, an odd Jobs man who made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sextro since last December, was a Veteran of World War I. He was single.

Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Hugo Grundmeier, Carroll; three brothers, Tony, Manning, and August and John of Minnesota.


William Mergele is buried in the Manning Cemetery.
