Albert Welliver
Services for Albert E. "Bill" Welliver, 82, of 1230 2nd Ave., Rock Island, will be 1 p.m. Friday at Wheelan Funeral Home. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal.

Visitation is 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to the VFW National Home, VFW Auxiliary Department of Illinois Cancer Fund or First United Methodist Church, Rock Island.

Mr. Welliver died Tuesday at Franciscan Hospital.

He was a machinist for 34 years at International Harvester Company, Farmall Works, Rock Island, retiring in 1964.

He married Alma Sutton in 1921 in Newton, Illinois.

Mr. Welliver was an Army Veteran of World War I and a member of VFW Post 1303, serving as past commander and quartermaster for 16 years. He was a member of Rock Island County Barracks 410, Veterans of World War I, Rock Island American Legion Post 200 and Rock Island Moose Lodge 190.

Mr. and Mrs. Welliver were honored in 1975 by the VFW post for 40 years of service to Veterans.

He was past commander of VFW Post 1303, Eighth District of Veterans of World War I and the American Legion Post 22, Manning, Iowa.

He also was past president of the Rock Island County Veterans Assistance Commission and was National Chief of Staff for the VFW of World War I.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Mrs. Robert (Alice Mae) Plum, Rock Island, and Mrs. Robert (Clara "Jean") Scott, St. Charles, Missouri; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and a sister, Clara Petters, Albert Lea, Minnesota.
